The works included in De: Lata (To Give Us Away) expand on Suárez’s analysis and critique in previous works of the marketing of the Latino culture.
Suárez paints a Neo-Pop aesthetic to bring into focus gender issues and erasures of difference in renderings of women in Latino labels and food products, dismantling idealizations, and stereotypes and confronting the patriarchal objectivization of women. In doing so, she aims to promote more truthful and potentially empowering Latinas images.
