Volunteers help make the National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture and programs a success! Discover how you can support the museum by donating your time in one of our many available volunteer positions.

Volunteer placement is made based on an individuals interests, experience, abilities, availability, and on current volunteer openings. Volunteers assist the Museum staff in the following capacities:

Docents

Docents make exhibits come alive for museum visitors of all ages. Duties include introducing tour groups to the exhibits and facilitating visitor learning through a combination of discussion and hands-on activities. This is a great opportunity for people interested in teaching in a non-traditional learning environment, and engaging others in an on-going experience with the rich cultural history of Puerto Rico.

Information Desk

Volunteers greet visitors in the Museum’s lobby and orient visitors on what the museum has to offer. Information desk volunteers are also the main point of contact for visitors in the museum answering questions about the museum that can range from the location of the galleries to the meaning of the courtyard mosaic.

Special Events

Volunteers assist staff at occasional evening and weekend programs. Volunteers greet guests, monitor program attendance, help serve refreshments, introduce speakers, and perform other duties as needed.

Museum Store

Volunteers assist staff in the day to day operation of the NMPRAC Museum Store. Store volunteers meet, greet and assist customers with souvenir and gift purchases. Volunteers can also offer support in store maintenance by maintaining displays and stocking merchandise.
