The National Museum of Puerto Rican Arts & Culture is hosting the 18th Edition of Barrio Arts Fest during the July 14th and 15th weekend, commemorating the opening of the museum after the reconstruction of the Humboldt Park Stables. Every year, this signature arts festival offers workshops for the entire family and features local artists, traditional dance and musical performances, and local food vendors.

MASTER CLASS WITH HAMILTON ACTOR JOSE RAMOS
Saturday at 10:00 AM, Sunday at 11:00 AM 
Hamilton actor Jose Ramos is offering a Master Class for budding acting and singing talent. Following his remarks, participants will have the opportunity to perform an audition piece to receive feedback, and the session will conclude with a questions and answers segment.
Note: Sign up for auditions will be on-site and will be first-come-first-serve. Come prepared with a song/skit to perform that is less than 3 minutes to allow time for feedback (each slot is 5 minutes).

BOOK READING WITH MARISA PAOLICELLI DE JESUS

Author Marisa Paolicelli de Jesús will host a book reading of Lightkeepers to the Rescue!The book reading will be followed by a family workshop, during which kids will design their own lighthouse inspired by Puerto Rico’s lighthouses.

Y No Había Luz, a theater company from Puerto Rico, will delight us with an art exhibit along with family workshops and a performance.

SHEDD’S CHICAGO TRAVELING AQUARIUM

When was the last time you were eye to eye with a fish in Humboldt Park? Shedd’s Chicago Traveling Aquarium, a 25-foot mobile aquarium, will let you look nature in the eye right at Barrio Arts Fest. Uncover what is in our local waterways, delight in the fish of the Great Lakes region, and join in reducing plastics going into our local waterways. Come by before the event starts to see how the aquarium is set up, too!
