MEDIA ALERT – July 20, 2018
CHICAGO – Hamilton Chicago’s Jose Maxi Ramos announces his debut at Schubas Tavern on Monday, August 20, for his first live concert, Welcome to the Maxi House. The all-ages show stars the singer/songwriter/actor before he departs Hamilton to launch his solo music career. Ramos will perform his own “original pop melodies with R&B attitude” for the first time, along with fan-favorite covers and a few surprises with his special musical guests.
Ramos has been starring in Hamilton in the dual role of John Laurens and Philip Hamilton since the production opened in Chicago more than two years ago. “I was born and raised in Chicago, so it felt right to perform live in concert for the first time here in my hometown before leaving Hamilton,” said Ramos, a graduate of The Chicago Academy for the Arts. “Everyone’s welcome in the Maxi House, where there’s two rules—lead with love and believe in yourself.”
Welcome to the Maxi House marks the conclusion of Ramos’s run with Hamilton as he pursues his music career, songwriting and other adventures. “I’m so grateful for being part of the most iconic musical of our time,” said Ramos. “During my run with Hamilton, I learned a ton about who I am, and now I can’t wait to introduce another side of myself as an artist.”
Ramos chose Schubas Tavern to make his concert debut because of its reputation as one of the
country’s best small music venues. “It’s going to be an intimate experience where everyone will feel like they belong—everyone comes together at the Maxi House!” said Ramos. Last fall, Ramos created Rise Up for Puerto Rico, an all-ages benefit concert with his fellow Hamilton Chicago cast members. Ramos continues to join community efforts in support of Puerto Rico and leads master classes for students across Chicagoland.
Welcome to the Maxi House takes place Monday, August 20, at Schubas Tavern, 3159 N. Southport Ave. Doors open at 7:00 pm; concert begins at 7:30 pm. General admission tickets are $25 per person.
